THE PROFESSIONAL’S TIPS TO PLAYING PENNARD
ST FOUNDER: A strong opening hole. Your tee shot needs to be straight between two hillocks. The green is neatly tucked in a hollow so make sure you select the correct club for your approach shot.
nd CEFN BRYN: A gentle par 3 – make sure you miss the cheeky bunker front left of the green.
rd PRESIDENT: A dogleg left par 4 – your line off the tee is the farmhouse on the hill. Hit the fairway and you will have a short to medium iron for your second shot.
th ILSTON: On the marker with your tee shot. If you are long enough you may get home in two. The green does run away from you so make sure your yardage is correct with your approach shot.
th PENMAEN: A great par 3 - miss the green and you will struggle to make your par.
th ADMIRAL: An uphill tee shot on the marker and you are in a good position to find the green which nestles in a hollow surrounded by sand dunes.
th CASTLE: A magnificent par 4. An inviting tee shot to a tumbling fairway and will require all your skill to hold a plateau green which runs away from you. Concentrate on your game as the views may distract you.
th CHURCH: Another tee shot which takes in the scenery – slight dogleg left marker is a good line to avoid two fairway bunkers left of the marker post.
th SOUTHGATE: A good two shot par 4 (par 5 for ladies). Keep your drive on the marker to leave yourself a long to mid iron for your second shot.
th THREE CLIFFS: Depending on the direct of the wind, a good tee shot into the gap and you may get home in two if you lay up. Your shot to the green is one of the most difficult on the course – if short the ball comes back to you long and a couple of bunkers await – good luck.
th TOWER: Club selection is the key – the green is only 13 yards wide so don’t be short.
th PENNARD PILL: A short par 4 but don’t miss the green on the right.

th COLONEL: You will need to strike your Sunday best shot to find this green don’t be short.
th BRAIDS: Over the marker with your tee short to avoid fairway bunker on the left will leave you with an uphill second shot to an undulating green.
th BOSCOS DEN: A challenging tee shot so club selection is key to this three tiered green.
th GREAT TOR: Our signature hole, usually into the prevailing wind. If you hit your tee shot past the marker post you may have a chance to get home in two and even if you do a par will be a good score.
th HELWICKS: A double dogleg par 5. A risk and reward tee shot over the marker post will leave a second shot to a green guarded by gorse. Fail to hit the fairway and accept a three shot par 5.
th HIGHWAY: Probably the most difficult fairway to hit on the golf links. A slight fade will have the best chance of holding the fairway to leave you with a medium to short iron to a large undulating green.
